Novelty Detection for Spectral Similarity of Songs

چکیده
We are introducing novelty detection, i.e. the automatic identification of new or unknown data not covered by the training data, to the field of music information retrieval. Two methods for novelty detection are evaluated within the context of genre classification based on spectral similarity. Both the method based solely on the similarity information and the one also utilizing genre label information perform equally well.

Novelty Detection Based on Spectral Similarity of Songs
We are introducing novelty detection, i.e. the automatic identification of new or unknown data not covered by the training data, to the field of music information retrieval. متن کاملA New Spectral-Based Approach to Query-by-Humming for MP3 Songs Database
In this paper, we propose a new approach to query-by-humming, focusing on MP3 songs database. Since MP3 songs are much more difficult in melody representation than symbolic performance data, we adopt to extract feature descriptors from the vocal sounds part of the songs. Our approach is based on signal filtering, sub-band spectral processing, MDCT coefficients analysis and peak energy detection...
متن کاملHidden Markov Models for Spectral Similarity of Songs
Hidden Markov Models (HMM) are compared to Gaussian Mixture Models (GMM) for describing spectral similarity of songs. Contrary to previous work we make a direct comparison based on the log-likelihood of songs given an HMM or GMM. Whereas the direct comparison of log-likelihoods clearly favors HMMs, this advantage in terms of modeling power does not allow for any gain in genre classification acc...
متن کاملLooking Through the "Glass Ceiling": A Conceptual Framework for the Problems of Spectral Similarity
Spectral similarity measures have been shown to exhibit good performance in several Music Information Retrieval (MIR) applications. They are also known, however, to possess several undesirable properties, namely allowing the existence of hub songs (songs which frequently appear in nearest neighbor lists of other songs), “orphans” (songs which practically never appear), and difficulties in disti...
متن کاملA procedure for an automated measurement of song similarity.
Assessment of vocal imitation requires a widely accepted way of describing and measuring any similarities between the song of a tutor and that of its pupil. Quantifying the similarity between two songs, however, can be difficult and fraught with subjective bias. We present a fully automated procedure that measures parametrically the similarity between songs. We tested its performance on a large...
